The PCO Licence, also known as the Private Hire Driver Licence, allows you to work as a minicab driver or chauffer, including working as an Uber driver. The PCO licence is valid for 3 years and is issued by the PCO (Public Carriage Office), who are part of Transport for London (TfL).
Course Information
Private hire vehicles (mini cabs) have to be licensed. Private hire vehicles are vehicles that cannot be hailed from the street, and journeys must be pre-booked. Vehicles must be tested and inspected before a licence can be issued to ensure that they are mechanically fit, safe and comfortable.
Minicab operators must hold a licence from the Public Carriage Office (PCO) to run a service (to accept or invite bookings for private hire vehicles). It is an offence to drive a minicab without a private hire driving licence or a temporary permit issued by the PCO.
A licence is required before any person can drive a private hire vehicle. Licences are issued subject to proof of eligibility (age, driving licence, criminal records check, medical assessment etc.).

More so, before you can obtain the license, you will need to pass the B1 ISE English Test and a Topography test which we provide training for here at East London Skills.
